A simple model that generates stylized facts of returns

چکیده
This note shows that a very simple model can generate returns that resemble most of the temporal and distributional behavior of long returns surprisingly well. The model is based on the stochastic unit root process introduced in Granger and Swanson (1997).

Endogenous time-varying risk aversion and asset returns
Stylized facts about statistical properties for short horizon returns in financial markets have been identified in the literature, but a satisfactory understanding for their manifestation is yet to be achieved. In this work, we show that a simple asset pricing model with representative agent is able to generate time series of returns that replicate such stylized facts if the risk aversion coeff...
متن کاملNonlinear Adaptive Beliefs and the Dynamics of Financial Markets: The Role of the Evolutionary Fitness Measure
We introduce a simple asset pricing model with two types of adaptively learning traders, fundamentalists and technical traders. Traders update their beliefs according to past performance and to market conditions. The model generates endogenous price uctuations and captures some stylized facts observed in real returns data, such as excess volatility, fat tails of returns distributions, volatilit...
متن کاملRobust Portfolio Optimization with risk measure CVAR under MGH distribution in DEA models
Financial returns exhibit stylized facts such as leptokurtosis, skewness and heavy-tailness. Regarding this behavior, in this paper, we apply multivariate generalized hyperbolic (mGH) distribution for portfolio modeling and performance evaluation, using conditional value at risk (CVaR) as a risk measure and allocating best weights for portfolio selection. Moreover, a robust portfolio optimizati...
متن کاملEstimation of Agent-Based Models: the Case of an Asymmetric Herding Model
The behavioral origins of the stylized facts of financial returns have been addressed in a growing body of agent-based models of financial markets. While the traditional efficient market viewpoint explains all statistical properties of returns by similar features of the news arrival process, the more recent behavioral finance models explain them as imprints of universal patterns of interaction ...
متن کاملA microsimulation of traders activity in the stock market: the role of heterogeneity, agents’ interactions and trade frictions
We propose a model with heterogeneous interacting traders which can explain some of the stylized facts of stock market returns. In the model, synchronization effects, which generate large fluctuations in returns, can arise purely from communication and imitation among traders. The key element in the model is the introduction of a trade friction which, by responding to price movements, creates a...
